Monthly Construction Updates

In an effort to provide interested members of the community with regular updates on the construction of Confluence Drive, the City will be posting information for your use and information on a monthly basis. Below you will find information regarding work started and scheduled in the near future.

Work Completed this period

  • MSE wall coping for walls built to grade
  • CMP around abutment piles
  • Earthwork for 1st/2nd Streets
  • Concrete processing for railroad stabilization
  • Excavation of realigned channel under realigned Palmer
  • Breaks on concrete cylinders are at or near strength at 7 day breaks
  • Soil density tests are all passing

Work in Progress

  • Continuing to address RFIs and Shop Drawing approvals
  • Material Delivery continues
  • Railroad material fabrication (tracks, switches, etc.)
  • Abutment construction
  • Coping construction
  • Wall #2 and 4 construction
  • Railroad bed construction south of 348 on City-owned property
  • Wetland mitigation project with City Crews removing weed trees. Earthwork started. Willow cuttings to be planted 13/14 June. Vegetation planting scheduled for fall due to low water and high temperatures.
  • Traffic implications:
    • 1st Street to be closed intermittently for 2 weeks starting 19 June to facilitate girder sets
    • 2nd Street is now closed at Columbia Street. Property owners in 100 block of Silver using 1st Street which is rotomilled
    • Palmer Street will be closed (anticipated 19-21 June) for UPRR to fix crossing
  • Fill for wall construction continues.
  • Reclamation work at Riverbend Park

  • Girder sets (scheduled to start 19 June)
  • Fills for grade and wall construction

Work Completed this period

  • Fabrication of girders and other pre-cast bridge elements
  • Drainage improvements by Fort
  • Fabrication of all wall panels
  • Red topping of 1st Street to serve Silver Street (to keep access open to Silver Street property owners)
  • 10x8 pedestrian underpass set
  • UPRR exchange and relocation agreements approved by City Council
  • Breaks on concrete cylinders are at or near strength at 7 day breaks
  • Soil density tests are all passing

  • Continuing to address RFIs and Shop Drawing approvals
  • Material Delivery continues
  • Railroad material fabrication (tracks, switches, etc.)
  • Abutment #2 construction
  • Coping construction for wall 3
  • Wall 2 and 4 construction
  • Wetland mitigation project with City Crews removing weed trees. Earthwork started. Willow cuttings to start this week. Vegetation planting scheduled first part of June.
  • Traffic implications to travelers on 1st and 2nd Streets between Palmer and Dodge over the next few weeks as underground work continues (Coordination with 2ndStreet Storm Drain project is on-going)
  • Fill for wall construction continues.
  • Reclamation work at Riverbend Park

Work Completed this period

  • Stormwater Infrastructure from WQ Pond at Kellogg to MH north of 5th Street
  • Beet Waste Stabilization for prism south of pedestrian bridge
  • Fills for leveling pads for Wall #3
  • City replaced existing steel line in 2nd Street with PVC prior to Road Fills
  • Box Culvert for drainage west of Palmer Set, Wingwalls and aprons poured
  • 404 permit approved by Army Corps of Engineers
  • Breaks on concrete cylinders are at or near strength at 7 day breaks
  • Soil density tests are all passing

Only two concerns received from public:

  1. Concern dealt with backup alarms on equipment
  2. Dust from project during wind storms and use of water truck

Work in Progress

  • Continuing to address RFIs and Shop Drawing approvals
  • Material Delivery continues
  • Stormwater infrastructure in the Gunnison River Drive vicinity
  • Exchange Agreement with UPRR (see notes below).
  • WQ Pond excavation has been substantially completed, will be installing outlet structure once cast and delivered
  • Wall #3 construction should wrap up in the next 14 days
  • Wetland mitigation project with City Crews removing weed trees. Earthwork bids to be returned end of April for Council consideration. Coordination with Graff Family continuing.
  • Minor traffic implications to travelers on 1st and 2nd Streets between Palmer and Dodge over the next few weeks as underground work continues (Coordination with 2nd Street Storm Drain project is on-going)
  • Fill for wall construction continues.
  • City replacing an old steel line in 2nd Street prior to fills in this location

Month Look Ahead

  • Set box culvert pedestrian tunnel
  • Begin preparation of railroad bed south of 348 on City-owned property
  • Wall construction (Moving to Wall #2 north of Foster Farms Spur. Will complete approx. 150' of Wall #2 to facilitate abutment construction, then move to Wall 4 south of the UPRR Main Line)
  • Abutment construction at Foster Farms Spur
  • Fills for grade and wall construction
  • Pier construction around H-piles
  • Red topping of 1st Street and Frontage Road so fills across 2nd Street can be completed

Work Completed this period

  • Pier Cap Construction
  • Hand Tunnel for 60" Pipe under Railroad
  • Breaks on concrete cylinders are at or near strength at 7 day breaks
  • Soil density tests are all passing
  • Only one concern received from public. Concern dealt with status of feral cat feeding location at 3rd Street

Work in Progress

  • Continuing to address RFIs and Shop Drawing approvals
  • Material Delivery continues
  • Beet Waste Excavation is nearly complete with the exception of the eastern most portion of the prizm. Backfill stabilization in CO#3 approved by council has been successful.
  • Stormwater Infrastructure installation continues. Focus has been on connecting hand tunnel to pond and to infrastructure south of the tracks.
  • Exchange Agreement with UPRR is nearing completion subject to minor details.
  • Excavation of Water Quality pond continues
  • Minor traffic implications to travelers on 1st and 2nd Streets between Palmer and Dodge over the next few weeks as underground work continues
  • Fill for wall construction has begun. Starting with wall at Foster Farms spur (Wall #3)
  • City replacing an old steel line in 2nd Street prior to fills in this location
